About The Artist

Inspiration tends to strike in the most unexpected moments – a sentiment that perfectly captures the beginning of Al Reshard’s lifelong passion for music.

At 14 years old, Al attended a performance by legendary bassist Al McDowell, where he was instantly drawn to McDowell’s riffs and rhythms.

That one concert was really all it took.

Al Reshard was bitten by the music bug – a bug he hasn’t quite shaken over the length of his 40-year career as an electric bass musician.

From there, his passion for bass flourished.

Gifted a bass guitar by his father not long after the concert, Al began his journey as a primarily self-taught bassist.

The 14-year-old Al would spend long days in his childhood room filled with the sounds of the great musicians before him, carefully taking in each and every note.

Music by Stanly Clarke, Jaco Pastorious and Nathaniel Philips bounced off the walls and guided Al’s hands, as he worked to find his unique voice and style.

He steadily grew into his own as a musician, shaped by training sessions with talented musicians like David Innis – an original member of the Grammy-winning band, Restless Heart.

With a spirit of dedication and a knack for finding inspiration around him, Al spent years tirelessly honing his distinct, fresh sound.

And over the course of four decades, he’s achieved just that.

From car horns to the familiar sound of adolescent emotions, Al’s style is marked by his ability to transform the everyday lives we lead.

That transformative sound – blended with inspiration from genres like jazz, R&B, and everything in between – all come together in one innovative, musical vision.

Much like Al’s own father sparked his passion for music, Al works alongside his son, Jon Reshard, to bring sound to life – driven by their shared love for chords and cadence.

Al is many things. A musician, most obviously. A creative, naturally. And a performer, innately.

But at his core, Al is a true bass player, telling his story through the sound of a plucked string.
